A Guide to Daily Vitamins

Part of The Beautiful Strange Self Care Series

As we make our way through the pandemic, self-care is important. So for the next few weeks, we’ll be focusing on wellness, with guidance from the designer herself, Angie Marei.

Routines take time to build. You have to experiment with what works with you, your lifestyle, your body—everything is personal. The one thing every routine takes? Patience, darling. So let’s start with the basics, and do what your mother always told you to do: take your vitamins.

THE AM ROUTINE

1. COFFEE
How else do people wake the hell up? My Dominican roots make me forever faith to Cafe Santo Domingo. Smooth, chocolatey, and strong but not too bitter. And, while coffee by itself isn’t technically a vitamin, I love mixing in a few tonics and collagen powder to really start the day right. See my recipe below.

    ANGIE'S POWER MOVES COFFEE TONIC

1 Cup of Cafe Santo Domingo Coffee
1 Splash of Oatly Oat Milk
1 teaspoon of Organic Coconut Oil or Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil
1 teaspoon of Anima Mundi THE MIND Energizing Brain Tonic,
1 teaspoon of Anima Mundi ADAPTOGENIC Immortality
1 scoop of NeoCell Collagen Powder

I’ve found collagen, especially NeoCell, to be great for skin elasticity, hair, and nails. It’s great for people with Celiac disease and leaky gut syndrome as it helps to repair the digestive system. It’s also amazing for joint issues. I love having this coffee to give me an energy boost before I go for a run. Now are you convinced coffee can be a vitamin?

    2. LIQUID DAY TIME VITAMINS

I love feeling the immediate effects of vitamins, and these
Liquid Multivitamins by Mary Ruth Organics make me feel like my body is actually absorbing everything. It’s really gentle on the stomach (and mine’s especially sensitive.

    3. VITAMIN C
I swear by the Liv On Labs Vitamin C supplement. It’s really absorbent—your body takes in about 90% of it. Great for cold and flu season, and overall immunity. A must in my morning routine.

        4. LIQUID NIGHT TIME MULTIVITAMINS
Specifically formulated for night-time use, I also love Mary Ruth’s Liquid Nighttime Multimineral. I feel so refreshed in the morning when I take this before bed!

        5. PROBIOTICS

As someone with a sensitive stomach, this is an important step for me. Probiotics 15 is the only one I found that helps my stomach feel normal.

        6. HYALURONIC ACID

Again, love Neocell! Their Hyaluronic Acid is great for keeping my skin moist and great for joints (great for runners).

        7. MAGNESIUM

This is essential for a good night’s sleep. We are born with magnesium in our bodies, and it’s supposed to be in the food we eat, but recent food production methods have led to a decrease in it appearing in our diets. Might be another reason why there’s been an increase in stress and anxiety in our world. I love Nature’s Life Magnesium or Calm Anti-Stress Drink Mix —they both are great for calming down the mind at night and work really well to help muscle repair.

        8. WATER & LIQUID LIGHT

As a final note, something I do throughout the day is to drink water. It seems like a no-brainer, but it can be hard to remember! I usually keep a large mason jar of water on my desk and add in a cap full of
Sun Warrior's Liquid Light for an extra mineral boost. Specifically, it has things like Iodine, Iron, and Chromium—minerals we don’t get enough of with our modern diets and chemically engineered foods. Liquid Light is a plant-based fulvic acid mineral complex created by nature in ancient plant deposits well before modern pollutants existed.

Most foods we consume aren't completely natural anymore, so we aren’t getting all the minerals we need, even from eating fruits and vegetables, as most are not grown without exposure to pollutants. Adding those missing nutrients back into my water gives me energy, helps relieve my anxiety and depression symptoms and overall creates balance within the body.
